The idea was first mooted by Martin Bond & Richard McCauley, who had been inspired by the the construction workers memorial in
Ontario Canada
John Riley who had been affected, decided to bring the idea to reality.
Paul Pritchard was invited to offer his expertise & gladly accepted
On the 20th June 2016 the St Helens Workers Memorial foundation was born.

Worker’s memorial day had been celebrated for many years in North America. It was brought to the UK in 1992. Scotland’s TUC adopted it in 1993, the TUC in 1999 and the Health and Safety Commission and Health and Safety Executive in 2000
